I returned to the field of software engineering after several years of enrichment studies, but my first work experience upon returning was not easy. It was a time filled with concerns about less-than-ideal market conditions, and I felt battered, with many doubts about my future in the field.
I reached out to Yoram, and the connection between us was immediate. Yoram was always by my side with a critical and professional eye, ensuring that I established a routine and framework, allowing the period I found myself in to have meaning and substance. The time and space we created were crucial for the process that helped me cope with the difficulties. Yoram guided me through a process of becoming aware of my "inner demons"—guilt, shame, self-criticism, comparison, hesitation. Over time, their negative impact lessened, and I learned to listen to myself, take control, and take action.
Yoram insisted that I "manage my unemployment with dignity." I created a task list and rewards for myself, and I tracked my progress. This approach helped me practice respect for myself and my time. Yoram communicated with me patiently, with empathy and great wisdom. He was a partner in the journey but didn’t take over and allowed me to lead. This experience serves as an important bridge for me, a model for interpersonal communication that I hope to find in the workplace as well.
Today, I feel calm and possess a strong sense of control. I have learned to trust myself more, my inner voice, and my sense of responsibility and commitment to myself and the tasks I choose to take on. I find that in addition to refining the accuracy of the workplace I am in, I have also clarified my own desires and abilities. I have made an important discovery of myself and my professional identity.
